I recently bought a 22ER9054 - CD-i IR Set without any CD-i Commander and on this page http://www.icdia.co.uk/accesories/pointing.html#22er9055 it mentions that the CD-i Commander uses the RC6 standard, so that means other non-cdi remotes will work with it too?, i've tried a few remotes without any success:/

On the side of the IR box is a switch that says REL/ABS , are those two different IR systems?.

As far as I know it was only designed with the commander in mind.

No clue what the switch is for however!

rel/abs sounds like 'relative/absolute'...I can make a guess: Perhaps it changes the way of measuring when there are, for example, a lot of incandescent lamps in the room, which can disturb the IR measuring. Switching to relative might do the trick. But that's a guess!

As far as I know the kit was indeed made specifically for the Commander for use with the 450 player, as these didn't have a IR sensor built in.

Yeah I think your right about that , makes sense.

I'm gonna go digging for some RC6 remote controls and hope that they work, very interesting site on the subject: http://www.sbprojects.com/knowledge/ir/rc6.htm

I went ahead and bought the Logitech Harmony 300i and impressively enough it has a few cd-i models in it's database including the 450, sadly it doesn't seem to have the up,down, left, right settings in the database but currently I can pause/start/skip the waynes world 2 vcd using the harmony on the cd-i! Smile.
