Re: The Apprentice alteration

Small update: I've looked a bit further than just the Medieval Tower in the hope that other towers may shed some more definitive light into this. In Seb's video of his playthrough of The Well, Stage 3 between 1:39 and 1:47 on the left hand side there's a sardine-can (1:39) and a worm-on-a-hook at th...

The Apprentice alteration

As this requires either the emulator, or someone who is willing to burn CDs with some alterations of the game files I've placed the thread here. @Forum mods: If it's still wrongly placed, feel free to move it to its proper location. Currently I'm building The Apprentice from scratch, but on a PC-pla...

Re: CDI-910 Power Supply Question

I haven't ever measured temperatures of the CD-i consoles, but know they don't exactly stay frosty. I'd assume temperatures around the power supply to be somewhat near 50-70 Celsius as 'acceptable' during operation. But as a techie I'm worried. Not many devices are built to operate at high temperatu...

Re: Ingame world maps, level maps, map layouts.. and their format

Family Games I, probably the easiest-to-acquire game on the console. Except I couldn't find an ISO on the 'net, so ripped my own disc. Turns out a BD-burner can read these just fine! There's only 3 games on it that I think would benefit from a map: Full Attack, Skid Kart, and Joukisen. The other gam...

Re: Ingame world maps, level maps, map layouts.. and their format

I had hoped to have done this faster, but I've been stuck at Family Games II - Room Service for a long while. This time I've looked at the Family Games II games and even though there's a bunch of games on it, there's really just two that I think require a map. Mortal Pong, Power Bucket, and the Expl...

IsoBuster file extraction issue

For lack of a better place, I'm putting this here. From this thread : On a side note: I find myself using IsoBuster's "Extract RAW" more and more often for data files. The 'normal' extraction process does not output the whole file.. usually there's half a sector worth of data lost at the end. Not th...

Re: Ingame world maps, level maps, map layouts.. and their format

Well, this took quite a bit longer than expected. Partially due to MicroMachines' weird CLUT pixel format, but mostly due to Alice's stupidly obscene connection. Anyway: Micro Machines List of maps. Size per map: 3072x3072 pixels, ranging between 212kB and 1478kB. Encoding method: - 1 level in ROUND...

Ingame world maps, level maps, map layouts.. and their format

Perhaps I should've done this a lot sooner... but better late than never! The many games I've played had incredible maps such as overworld maps, dungeon maps, race-layout maps, or a complex system of multiple areas making one giant world. Games such as Alice In Wonderland is one of those latter. Oh ...

Re: Decoding CD-i audio files

... IsoBuster & disc things ... Strangely enough, it did help. Perhaps IsoBuster doesn't properly recognize the end of a file. The contents that were extracted using IsoBusters own function are correct, just the last bytes are lost. So it's not the CD image that is at fault. Though.. it may have in...

Re: Decoding CD-i audio files

Froggy Dimo is in there. They did rework the sprite into a (what I call) red crocodile: http://www.shikotei.com/tmp/cdi/DimosQuest - gfxset1 - RedCroc.gif Do you know if this was actually used in the game? There's a different "red crocodile" monster in the gfxset (7 positions to the right of Dimo)....

Re: Decoding CD-i audio files

One little detail I noticed: in the Dimo's Quest maps, you still have little frog Dimo: http://www.cdiemu.org/img/frog_dimo.gif I take it this is actually a tile in the maps? The actual Dimo sprite in the final game is completely different. The gfxset N .blk (n=1..6) contains a CLUT stored image (3...

Re: Decoding CD-i audio files

[off-topic:Images] ... lots of interesting facts about The Apprentice data files ... [/off-topic:Images] That's quite an interesting bit of information; have you perhaps given any thought to decoding the level map into a giant image? I have. In fact, I've been decoding a lot of the data of The Appr...

Re: Decoding CD-i audio files

For Vision Factory games, use the CDDA audio tracks for high quality music (44.1 kHz PCM stereo). Those CD-DA files were extracted years 'n years ago (early '00s) and have been extensively listened to (still are). Yes, that sounds comparable (music_1_5_Se). Looks like I need to stop clearing those ...

Re: Decoding CD-i audio files

Being lazy in terms of repetitive actions ought to be automated, made me desire to generate readable audio files, instead of raw PCM data. A little research in WAV header format yielded this page . I'm either creating the headers incorrectly, or the data is incorrectly stored.. but the audio is sped...

Re: Decoding CD-i audio files

The values of SP.F are fixed binary values, that is a sum of negative power of 2. Decoding adpcm with 1 audio channel (mono) is clear (although you have to translate this scarying circuit diagram into code). But for stereo, the decoder must be duplicated : one decoding (and thus, memorizing ) value...
