Quick question

First things first, I am NOT looking to obtain ROMS from anyone else or anywhere on the internet. That being said:

My CD-i has long since broken, and I still have my copy of Burn:Cycle which I've been aching to play for weeks now. Without a working CD-i, is there any way to get my copy of Burn:Cycle onto my PC so I can emulate it? I've considered purchasing a copy of the game for Windows, but I have Vista, and I can almost guarantee that it wouldn't work, and I don't want to waste my money.

I know usually people use a CD-i Link to get ROM images from their discs... can a computer CD-ROM even read a CD-i disc? If it cannot, then I guess I have no way of getting the ROM to my hard drive; either that, or I can buy a used CD-i on eBay or something. Either way, my main goal is to run the game on my computer, as back when I first bought the game in '94, I remember the standard CD-i controller being mind-numbingly frustrating to use in certain parts of the game (blowing up the mines while flying, for example). I figure a mouse will be a little easier on my temper. Seeing as how the PC version of the game was inferior to the CD-i version, I would rather play the original but with the added perks of PC peripherals.

Any suggestions?

Burn:Cycle doesn't work with CD-i Emulator (The only emulator for CD-i games at the moment), so don't waste your time in that.

Even if it did support it, you should buy the full version to enjoy the game (instead of just checking if it works), so you'd do best buying a second hand player for a few bucks.

I haven't checked eBay, but I'm sure a CD-i isn't easy to come by these days... how much do you think I should expect to pay? I mean, I'm only wanting to play Burn:Cycle, if it's gonna cost hundreds of dollars, I guess I'll just forget the game ever existed.

Edit: Also, is there a joypad input device? I can't STAND the CD-i controller.

Yes there's a joypad too, but be sure you buy a player with a joypad included: People ask a lot of money if they sell the joypad seperately; it's not the most common CD-i add-on.

I'd never pass the 30 bucks for a regular CD-i player. These are all over ten years old and won't last forever. But it depends what you want to pay for it. Don't you have other auction sites instead of eBay in the US? eBay is expensive too.

I checked on eBay... dang, you're not kidding about CD-i stuff being expensive. The cheapest auction I've found so far sounds kind of promising, but it's still more than 6 days away from ending... the auction includes a Philips CD-i 910 (which looks a LOT different than the one I had, which I think was a 450 or something... it was top-loading for sure, it didn't have a CD tray), 20 games and 8 movies. The auction starts at 20 bucks, but like I said, it still has over 6 days left, so I expect that price to raise, especially considering that shipping alone is 30 bucks.

Even if I can win the auction at 20 bucks, that's looking at a 50 dollar payment just so I can play Burn:Cycle again, a game that is AT MOST 2 hours of playtime, and then most likely shelf the system. It's looking less like it's worth it by the day... dang I wish I could just use my old CD-i, but I guess 14 or 15 years old is pretty dang old for a console.

Heck, even if I did get the auction, I'd then have to buy a joypad, and the only listing on eBay that I've found is 30 bucks with 5 dollar shipping, bumping the total price to $85.03. Over 80 dollars just to play Burn:Cycle... sadly, I don't think the cost is worth it, but dang I wanna play this game again. Looks like I'm out of luck, as the Windows version probably doesn't work on Vista and the cost of a CD-i and a joypad is too prohibitive. Alas, I might just have to let this one go.

Edit: I thought I'd mention this... I saw an auction on eBay for the Interactive Encyclopedia and Tennis games that COME WITH the system for 10 bucks... it's funny that someone is auctioning discs that were packaged with the console originally.
