Voyeur II

Anything relating to CD-i can be discussed in this forum. From the multiple hardware iterations of the system to the sofware including games, reference, music and Video CDs. Maybe you hold an interest in Philips Media and the many development houses set up to cater for CD-i if so then this is the forum.

Voyeur II

Post by dunc90 » Sat Dec 23, 2006 8:08 pm

Hi,

The article in retro Gamer on the CDI says that there is a version of Voyeur II disc one in the CDI community. Does anyone have a copy? I've not seem anyone comment on it so I must have missed that. Does anyone have any info?

I own the PC version but could never get it to run under WinXP. Is the CDI version available to download anywhere?

Thanks

nono, no download! Rare, yes, we love rare CD-i titles ;) Welcome here, dunc!

[spam]You'll find more info early next year here![/spam]

However, you mean this one:

click here! (that's another topic in our Games List.)

Watch the videos (they're inside) and see the CD-i version would easily top the CD-ROM version. This would have been a two-cd experience.....

I'm sorry we're not handing out copies, that would strike the oath we have with all our contacts. That's because, without them, we wouldn't have the prototypes in the first place.... We can overload you with info however ;)

Thanks, thats a shame I really wanted that game.

Anyone got any ideas how to get the PC version running under WinXp? I think it needs Win95 to work.

Don't you have certain Win95 emulators for XP..... I'm not sure, but I wouldn't be surprised. Anyone else? I'd try google on this one......

You can rightclick on the executable, select properties, go to the compatibility tab and choose Windows 95 as compatibility mode!

Give it a try and let me know if it works! I still have that CD-Rom somewhere too...

No luck. When I try to run the setup file I get this error:

16 bit Windows Subsystem

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows Applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

Any ideas? I remember trying lots of different things before and never got anywhere. Shame...

Wasn't Voyeur II still made for MS-DOS? If so, give DOSBox a try.

Is a MSDOS app running under Windows.

I don't found the form to play it with NT systems or DOSBOX. :(

It doesn't work with Dosbox, it gives me an error and says that the game needs windows to run. I guess it only works with Windows 95...

I remember that other Philips PC titles had similar problems when I tired to play them under Win XP.

If anyone ever gets it working please let me know.

Thanks

I found my Voyeur II last week. I'm taking it to work today to have some people check out how to make it run under XP or Vista.

I'll let you know how it went!

DosBox is the way to make it work indeed. Not just a dos-box under Windows, but the dos-emulator called 'dosbox'. You can find it at http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/

Install VoyeurII with setup.exe and ignore any errors.
On the C:\ drive, a folder "VoyeurII" is created

Install the DOSBOX application
Run DOSBOX
in the DOSBOX command prompt, type:
mount c c:\
mount d d:\ -t cdrom (where d is the drive you installed Voyeur2 from)

type
c:
type
cd voyeurII (to go to the voyeur folder)
type
setsound

- Select & configure digital audio driver
- Creative Labs Sound Blaster or 100 % Compatible
- Attempt to configure sound driver automatically
- Device detected successfully => OK
- Done

Type
V2

Depending on the type of computer you're using, you might want to play around with some settings in the config file of DOSBOX or try using the Ctrl-F12 and Ctrl-F11 commands to overclock the CPU, or use Ctrl-F8 and Ctrl-F7 to change the 'skip frames' setting. Read the readme file for more info.

The sound seemed to lag a bit on my pc, so it was a bit like watching a Bruce Lee movie...

Good luck.
