New Frog Feast preview posted.

Anything relating to CD-i can be discussed in this forum. From the multiple hardware iterations of the system to the sofware including games, reference, music and Video CDs. Maybe you hold an interest in Philips Media and the many development houses set up to cater for CD-i if so then this is the forum.

New Frog Feast preview posted.

Post by cdoty » Wed Jul 11, 2007 8:38 am

The first working demo of the new Frog Feast is up. There is no user input. But, it does display the credit screens seen in other versions, and the title screen with sprites and text. I haven't implemented input in this version. That is next on the agenda. This version should run correctly on either NTSC or PAL systems, with the image centered on either.

The demo is available on the Frog Feast CD-I page.

Give it a try, if you like. A new version will probably be posted in a day or two..

I tried to unzip the .zip-file, but the .bin-file cannot be extracted?

Same problem. Bad CRC in the .zip archive.

I also wanted everyone to know that we may be seeing this game
released in the next month or so. :)

Ok, it should work now. I'm not sure what the problem was.

A new version of Frog Feast is up. The new version is fully playable (one player only), except it plays in slow motion. I need to figure out what the slowdown is.

I gave it a try and it behaves as in your first post. Maybe I downloaded the wrong file but it does not play, unless it is really slow.

I tried the the cd-i 350 and only a scramble image was displayed.

On the Goldstar it played until the main menu shows up, with the image centered and the 1 or 2 players option was displayed. It did not moved beyond this point.

Quite excited that it is finally coming along!

It was an old version, or the input was compiled out, I'm not sure which..

I've posted a new version. This runs full speed on a CDI-370 and slows down a little on a CDI-450. Although two players is selectable, the second controller is not read. Also, this version has the flies disabled.

I wonder what is different with the CD-i 350?

Check out this page to see the differences. There's also a link to the comparision table including details. Mainly, the 370 has integrated DVC and a larger memory (32 kb instead of 8 kb)

Excellent progress, the demo is being tested right now!

After playing the demo of Frog Feast for cd-i on the emulator, i tested it on my cd-i 450. It works great.

I noticed three things:

1 If you let the frog jump to the left, from the leaf on the left, then the frog 'moves outside the screen'. Does this have to do with differences between PAL/NTSC and/or 3:4/16:9 ?

2 It seems that it is impossible to pause/end a game, and to exit the disc.

3 The game over screen in two player mode shows a dark green computer frog.

Thanks for testing in out. The feedback is greatly appreciated.

Did you notice any slowdowns, and are you running PAL or NTSC?

Currently I use the entire buffer. I need to move the screen limits in. The big challenge is going to be finding a limit that works well on all TV screens.

Frog Feast probably won't support an exit. An exit feature doesn't seem very common. I've never really thought about a pause feature. I wonder if there is a demand for a pause feature?

The dark green frog is displayed throughout the game (at least on my current version). This helps in identifying your frog.

There are guidelines on this in the Green Book and the Technical Notes. I'll do some searching...

This means there won't be a credits screen and I was looking forward to appearing on it. Please? :-)

Toilet breaks and child screams or wife calls come to mind. Of course, this matters more with longer level playing times, and for some people more then others...
