Thanks for the answers.

Bas, I guess it comes down to you. If your CD-i has a problem with the disk, it's probably questionable CD-Rs.

Could the CD-i 470/490 have a weaker laser, causing it to start failing before other models?

A friend will be looking into getting his 470 to read CD-Rs. It may be simply adjusting the power to the laser. This is occasionally done on the PSX and Saturn.

I've tested the ISO, and the game runs perfect on a 490. So I'm afraid it's about the brand of CDR. That's a little...... painful to find out.

I hope Oldergames is able to sort this out :?

Test results I posted here

Yea, the game doesnt load that well on my CD-i 490 player either. But it did load after a few tries :) My disk is number 4/50 if that matters any. But yeah, it does work! I even took some screenshots, Ill just post one for good measure. Having some issues with my recording setup otherwise Id have a video up as well, and Charles agreed to a short interview via Email so look for that soon :)

So, you just kept restarting the system, and it worked?

That's the lowest one, so far other than the auctioned #1. I got 15.

Now, I'm going to make this story even more mysterious. Read my results right here

I just received my original copy (Thanks Devin!) and it plays again flawless on my 490. No problem, no issue, not even after twenty try-outs. Maybe you guys should blow off the dust of your machines :D

That's really odd. If it was the 470, it could be some difference in the revision.

Maybe they switched CD unit supplier at some time in the manufacturing. Probably late, since it seems consistent across most 470/490 players.
