As far as I know all CDI movie discs will work with either pal or ntsc machines, but can a UK PAL video cd cartridge work with NTSC machines?

Rephrasing the question above: (No relation whatsoever with the user above... eheheh... )

I've found some discs on ebay and the seller says "US NTSC disc" but I think he's saying that because the discs have "Philips Media of America" on them!

Is there such thing as NTSC discs? Or all discs work with all players, regardless players versions and/or discs market origin?

there are NTSC discs, yes. The differences between CD-i PAL and CD-i NTSC is explained in this article.

I've read the article, and still find it hard to figure if a disc is PAL or not... mostly because i've never seen a disc stating PAL or anything else...

If there's nothing that says NTSC, we should assume it is PAL, right?

I've already contacted the seller and he said the discs came from America, so he assumes they are not PAL...

I'm not sure if it applies on games too, but the difference is very small because your player can play both...

I've only come across a few incompatibility issues though

It's strange - I have a US copy of the movie Black Rain and a UK copy - both will play on my PAL machine with the US version letterboxed.
My US version of Wayne's World will not play and I get the region lockout message. With the movies I gather it was up to the Studio's discretion and as far as the games are concerned I've had no region issues.

a region lockout message? That would be the very first time I heard about that! Care to make a picture?

thats an NTSC disc, PAL demo discs look different. the easiest way to tell though is by the product number. the pal ones have 7 digits look like 810 0001. the NTSC ones have 10 digits and look like 310690141-2

sorry for the delay in posting as I have just had to rebuild both of my pc's - one was HD failure and the other one I overclocked to compensate and had major meltdown!
I will post in the next week a photo of the NTSC screen of Black Rain , one of the Pal version and then one of the error/region message on the screen for Wayne's World. I suspect that region lockout was disc based and not hardware based and depended on the publisher not the CDi model.

First is a shot of PAL & NTSC version of Black Rain & Waynes World Cases to show that they are genuine CD-i releases.
2nd pic - although dark and grainy is PAL Black Rain no letterboxing
3rd pic is NTSC Black Rain (letterboxed) I am on PAL
4th is the region lockout message when Wayne's World is inserted - what makes it more puzzling is that they are ALL Paramount releases!
