Should these CD-I models be avoided?

While in the market for a CD-I, I have been avoiding pretty good deals on certain models of CD-I's because of an article that states that certain models of CD-I are not very good.

This is because of the following article:

http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Realm/2 ... ware1.html

Specifically, this article says that the 450 and 550 do not handle Digital Video very well, and wears them out.

It also states that there are two kinds of 910's,

It says that there are 910s made in 1991, with green lights on the front that are very good.

It says that the other 910's were made and 1992, with blue lights in the front that are not very good.

What's weird is I've contacted an Ebay seller selling a 910 about this and he said that his was made in 1992 but has green lights.

Lately, I've been wondering if that article is accurate at all, as I haven't been able to find anything else suggesting problems with the 450s and 550s.

I have found some information suggesting that the first batch of 910's in 1991 may have been slightly different then the ones made in 1992, but nothing suggesting that there was a major difference in quality between the two batches.

Is there any truth to this article at all??? Or am I avoiding perfectly good CD-I's due to misinformation?

It's news to me that's for sure.

I have a 210, 220, 450 and 490 and all seem to be solid in all aspects.

I must admit the 490 feels the best in quality, however I was really suprised when I received my 450 - I thought it was going to be cheap and flimsy. But in fact it felt really solid and expensive.

I say, get yourself a 490 but don't be affraid of the other models there all pretty much as good as each other.

i dont know about the first models of Cd-i systems but i do know about the 450
i had a friend that had one and played mostly movies in them. when he would open the door the CD would be stuck to the lid because of the heat the system put on the CD, it would smudge the CD label
he showed me the naked gun 33 1/3 CD he had and the middle of the CD was messed up pretty good

so i say keep that in mind when looking at that type of player, i have the Goldstar version of the 450 but i havent used it much past testing it when i first got it
