How do you beat the color puzzle in Escape From Cybercity?

Hello there. First time poster here. Great forums everyone! Lots of interesting and useful information to be found.
I was wondering if anyone knows how to beat the color puzzle near the end of Escape from Cyber City. I was able to beat the game once, which gave me the false impression of understanding how it worked. It turned out to be dumb luck. Now every time I reach the color reactor I have no idea what to look for. I know you have to shoot the colors, but that's about it.
