I have found several references hinting that the game Shadowgate was released on the CD-i. However, the Black Moon Project does'nt list it.

Does anybody here know for sure if Shadowgate was released on the CD-i?

Thanks guys!

Hey there!
Interesting.. what kind of references are you talking about and could you give some more details on that?

As far as I know shadowgate was never released. It did come from the same publisher as the Deja Vu games (ICOM) and seems to be the same genre/kind of game.. The Deja Vu games were announced several times, possibly even developed, but as far as I know never published. Same could be true for shadowgate..

again.. I would love to find some more references to that.. if you could give some details on that, that would be great!

btw.. glad to see you around, hope you'll like this website and these forums!

Yeah thanks, this site and forum has been a great help, as I am a new CD-i fan.

There are all kinds of "hints" to there being a CD-i version of Shadowgate, but as you said it was more than likely never released. I was taking a shot in the dark hoping that my favorite game would have been made for my new favorite system. Anyhow, you can find all sorts of little hints via Google.com. Just to the following search +"cd-i" +shadowgate

Here are a few of the many links...

This one makes it look like both Shadowgate and Deja Vu 2 were released for the CD-i...
http://www.if-legends.org/~adventure/IC ... Shadowgate

these pages just kind of "hint" at it...
http://www.gamewinners.com/CDI/Shadowgate.htm
http://www.stageselect.com/games/game.aspx?gameid=5495
http://smigleys.talkspot.com/aspx/templ ... sgId=73179

I would pay just about any price for a really good CD-I version of Shadowgate.

Most of the CD-i information available on the net besides this close knit community of websites tends to be completely wrong and outdated. However, always the chance that this game may have been developed at some point. It certainly warrants further investigation in anycase!!

Always great to see a new fan of the CD-i!! You've joined us at an interesting time to the community :D

Yeah.. still there were lot of rumors surrounding those ICOM/Mindscape adventures coming to CDi. Deja Vu 1&2, Uninvited, SHadowgate all have been rumored to come to CDi. Same style games, same publisher, loads of rumors.. and I believe Deja Vu was even listed in the Philips CDi catalogue, same as CDi magazine!

You know what they say, where there is smoke there is Fire! We need to look into that!

Speaking of the CD-i magazines. Are there any sources to buy back issues? Or maybe even an online archive?

ebay is the best source to get CDi Magazine otherwise we are trying to get official permission to publish them in PDF format. I doubt the publishers care about such a relic but it's the right way to go about it.

For the dutch publisher, no-one answers my emails!

A PDF file for every cd-i magazine would be REALLY nice!

I have a first official issue CD-i Magazine published by Philips Media themselves. Once I get the PDF situation sorted out I plan to create an electronic document recreation through scans. It was a terrible magazine you really have to see it to believe me!!

That would be great! If/when I get my hands on some issues I will be sure to make pdf files of them as well.

Next week I will be getting 20+ CD-i games. I will be scanning all of the games covers and manuals to make available to the Black Moon Project.

By the way, if you guys come across a CD-i gamepad (the ergonomic Sega Saturn like pad) that is for sale, please let me know. Ebay does not have one right now. Hopefully some acomplished engineer will re-create the Paul Hackmann adapter to market to us CD-i fans.

Thanks metalsphere, all help is appreciated.

BTW, back on topic.. what did you like so much about shadowgate, and what kind of game was it?

Its kind of hard to explain why I like it so much. It was one of my favorite games as a child. It is essentially a text adventure with still images of each room in the castle. You play Jair, a brave knight who has been sent to Castle Shadowgate to stop the evil Wizard from completing his spell of destruction. You really just have to play the game to understand. It is easily available on the net as a rom for the Nintendo entertainment System via NES emulators. I could just imagine a CD-i version with beautifully rendered backgrounds and a CD quality soundtrack.

Cool. so it was a point-and-click kind of adventure? Who knows, someone somewhere could make a conversion! Just like I saw someone had made a conversion (with graphics update to modern day graphics) of the original King's Quest adventure..

Surely having an emulator will be a step in the right direction!

Thanks man, that's great. Although have a look at the gamelist on black moon so nobody is doing any work 'double'...

That is very generous metalsphere :D

I look forward to seeing them, any rarities included? We could do with a better high quality scan of Solar Crusade for starters!!
