I can't imagine!?!
It might be worthwhile asking the seller if they have any software which uses the scanner.

It probably jumps to a certain part of the disc. Hmm, I remember someone who sold these things and telling me he can reprogram the players to work with the driving software. I'll see if I can ask him about this.

i'd imagine it could show you more info (video..)when scanning a code from a catalogue, something for the business market. Interesting...

The seller is also selling the driving school software.
I asked the seller after the use of the barcodescanner.
He answered:
The barcodescanner is connected to the CD-i player.
In the manual which comes with the software he can select with barcode the software he wishes to use.

Is it just me or does that seem like overkill?
Wouldn't it be easier just to select with a remote what program you wanted to run? Still this is very interesting in a skillo funky kinda way

Professionel Cd-i applications often use a interface.
A modem, touchscreen a special designed keypad etc.
I've a CD-i that shows a movie of a car tyre on a car racing on a circuit.
With the right interface you can select the best tyre for you car.
I don't have the interface, it shows only the movie on a regular Cd-i player.
The CD-i is made for a tyre manufactor and put in a shop as demonstration. The CD-i player is placed out of sight, only a monitor and the interface is shown.
The setup was shown on the manual.

that reminds me of the four player adapter from the guys of Creative Media.
It is the interface which makes it more interactive, and more creative!

The driving school software will only work with the barcodescanner.
The seller is selling it in 3 items, one will not work without the other.

I've seen this software.
It comes with a book with many questions about driving theory, hundreds of them. Each question would have a barcode with it, allowing a teacher to easily jump to that particular question in the software.
Sure beats having to type in numbers (needs a keyboard), or navigating using a menu; almost as good as having little buttons below each question in the book!
I think the barcode scanner is not CD-i specific (except for the cable, probably); you could probably simulate its output easily from a PC.
Then again, who needs to learn the German driving rules? That's the content of the CD-i discs...

I'm pretty sure there also is a Dutch version and it could be that there still is a complete set for sale in Eindhoven

. Unfortunately it's at the same address of the person I lost the contact details from...

As far as I know, only a single player operates on the both the Dutch and German driving theory market.
There do exist Dutch driving theory sets of course, and one of them used to be on CD-i. That product has now migrated to PC's with a DVD drive, however.
Until a few years ago, the official Dutch driving theory exams where actually taken using a CD-i player as classroom controller. The CD-i software was written by SPC, I think.
