CDI 182 Voltage switch and Bootdisk Software
Recently bought the complete Philips CDI 180-181-182 system.
The 180-181 are 240 Volts ~ and the description at the backside from the
182 says 120-240 Volts ~
I don't dare to switch it on. All 3 systems are connected by power wires
together, so maybe the 182 is self-switching from a 120 to 240 Volts ?
The fuses in the 182 are 250VA, and the power seems to be self-switching, so I want to ask, does anyone know more perhaps ?
I cannot find a switch inside the 182 for going to 120- or 240 Volts ~.
Second question is, where can I get a bootdisk for the 182, the disc
delivered with the 182 is corrupt, or maybe software to make the bootdisk.
Hope someone can help me, Thanks Gerrit

Yes, it's the same person, only I saw the add on www.marktplaats.nl and could buy the cdi system in a separate way. The seller itself thought the 182 belongs to the set and switches between 120 - 240 Volts ~
And thanks for the quick reply.

The bootdisk was provided with the complete set 180/181/182, but I don't know anything about the 182, how to start it and work with. And the bootdisk is corrupt, couldn't make a backup with ANADISK (a track to track disk copier under DOS), so need a new one. The scanning of the bootdisk with ANADISK didn't ended normal either. I hope Erroneous will read this message, maybe he has email.
But basically you just connect the 182 module to the rest of your system and it should be running. The software should be in the ROM, so the floppy drives, scsi and network ports should be working right away. The disc you're referring to is not a bootdisk like a MS-DOS bootdisk. You don't need it to get the machine running and you can also get the commands from a CD-i disc.
The OS-9 system diskette for the 605 has some additional commands which are not included in the 605-rom.

I couldn't read my OS9 disks on the PC either, but the 605 had no problems with them. The sectors are 256 bytes, not the usual 512 for PC floppies, it could be that Windows XP has problems with this.
Did you run ANADISK under plain old DOS? That is its intended operating system; don't know if the Windows "virtualization" stuff is that good...

Hmm, I just found the basic manual for the 180 and a warranty card . Not much interesting inside, but it refers to a "technical manual" for professional use of the machine which can be seperately ordered. Has anyone seen the technical manual? And what goes into the two expansion slots of the CDI182?

It seems as the 605 is the perfection of the followup of the 180 system, the OS9 disc will also run with the 182, And I can make copies of that disk with ANADISK (running under plain Dos) so if anyone own the disk, I'm interesting of getting it. The technical manuals of the 180/181/182 aren't available. Philips Holland doesn't have these anymore, so I wrote Philips Japan (he was made there), but no response. Maybe some of the employees in those days has one, I will start a search within Marktplaats.nl, there must be one in a forgotten place. I own the original ownermanual of the 180/181, that's all.

Ok, the 240V part did go out after one hour. So got my 120V set (180/181) and mounted the 182. all works fine. NO SMOKE! But the new floppy-drives (NEC) won't work. There are no leds burning, when starting up, so the connection must be ok. otherwise the leds are burning constantly. Maybe it's the A and B connection. But I can't switch any in the 182, nor inside the floppy-drives. Maybe twisting the cable? Otherwise I have to dismantle on drive (or disconnect). I think the last option is the best for testing.

I've sent freetimer a disk image of my OS9 System Disk, together with a "bootimage" for the 615 (really any player with a floppy drive) that can be used with cdilink to get the image file on an OS9 floppy.
I couldn't read the OS9 disks on my PC, even under straight DOS with ANADISK/TELEDISK, so I had to resort to my 605 to create a logical disk image via the /d0@ "raw" device.
The bootimage thing was actually fun to do, involving creative use of OS9 modules and a ramdisk driver

Well cdifan thanks for the support. Will make the disk so far. I did switch the flatcable on the diskdrive and now the leds are on constantly, but when I put the bootdisk it it, just CANNOT READ THE DISK, so it seems the original pc drives were different in connecting. The work goes on ..................
