Anticipation and Ravings about CD-i Emulator v0.5.3 thread

Post by Devin » Sun Nov 08, 2009 11:51 am

I'm excited about this release if only for KEYBOARD SUPPORT, yeah you heard me! :D

However that is not the only update! Just follow the threads on this forum running parrallel to the MESS forum posts and you get an idea of what is in store. The blog of CD-i Fan has lots more information and musings available here...

http://cdibits.blogspot.com/

So I suggest we put any feedback in this thread!

One question on my mind to you CD-i Fan is how will the upgrade be handled? I mean it's very dim in my memory but didn't we originally use a key to open up the emulater so it was 'unlimited'? So how would this work when paying customers of the previous version download the new v0.5.3?

Each beta release (there will probably be multiple) will contain a single CD-i Emulator executable; it will act as a limited edition unless you have already activated an unlimited edition v0.5.2 on your machine or (at least for the initial releases) you're using a Mono-I player system ROM (BIOS).

The former exception has two purposes: it delivers the promised free compatibility updates to my existing customers, and it should encourage new customers as well (several people have promised to buy CD-i Emulator as soon as keyboard support was working).

The latter exception is mainly intended to allow for full compatibility tests against the MESS CD-i driver; I haven't decided yet for how long this will be maintained.

It will not be possible to directly activate beta releases, for that you will need an unlimited v0.5.2 edition. However, when the beta cycle is over, I will do a full unlimited release that can be activated directly (for paying customers only, of course).

The first beta will NOT include DV cartridge functionality; it is still too flaky for release. Hopefully this can be remedied in later beta releases.

Wow, a new version? Very nice move hooking up with the MESS team. I look forward to these future developments.

any news on when this version will be released? I'm ready and willing to buy the full release. this would make getting screenshots much easier then screwing around with annoying capture cards...

I have no fixed timeline, just a single feature that needs to be refactored: input recording/playback. Without this, creating movies is very hard on some older PCs, and it also allows you to record input traces that e.g. show a bug.

The new beta was slated for end of 2009, guess I didn't make that :?

It's really encouraging to hear that work is still being done on this! :)
Thank you very much for your continued efforts.
It's like 1993 all over again!

I just found this website because i was playing Ring King on a NES emulator and thought the only real boxing game that i ever thought was fun was the boxing one on CD-I...

So after googling and stuff found this emulator and the ROM for Caesars World of Boxing and Volia the EMU say "NO DIGITAL VIDEO COMPATABILITY!!!... Arg...

So now since i was using the Limited 0.52 Version i am going on the Waiting for DVC Compatabilty till i actually purchase this EMU.. This was the only game i actually liked on the CD-I

But i appreciate the work you have put into this program and i hope that this will someday become available.

I've posted last June, perhaps you should check my posting history before drawing such conclusions?

Anyway, CD-i Emulator is not dead but certainly on a long hiatus...
