AMERICAN FACTS

Post by Devin » Wed Sep 07, 2005 11:10 pm

I'll post some of my discoveries about America in here overtime :D

FACT 1 Americans tuck Shirts/T-Shirts firmly into trousers!!

I thought this went out with the 80's to be honest, virtually everybody I saw in casual wear with proper trousers does this. Just one of the small differences I noticed where in Britain T-Shirts stay firmly outta pants.

FACT 2 Just give me a damned black coffee!!

Americans have too much choice, I order a black coffee...simple...no!! Do I want de-caf, sugar, sweetner, cream etc etc etc. It takes 5 minutes just to go through this process.

FACT 3 Sir, your in America...where we eat BEEF!!

Probably something everybody expects but as a general rule of thumb the Californian/American way of life isn't very healthy. This is a country where you get a Starbucks every second block becuase they can't walk across the street. They have like a hundred different burger joints where a burger is a meal in itself :P. Saying all this the excess of American culture is what attracted me to venture that way initially...well that and RetroGames!! Also to make my buddy RW walk from A to B to C instead of driving eveywhere

And don't think I'm forgetting that either! Friggin Devin
parking on one side of the damn parking lot forcing me
to walk to the store from the other side. Christ!

Do you know how many doughnuts this is going
to take me to recover from? F*CK EXERSIZING!

FACT 4 Give Way.... give way for crying out loud GIVE F&*$%£G WAY!!

This is what they refer to as a Baptism of fire!! Just doing a little run about downtown LA the roads are fine... enter the freeway. No one I repeat NO ONE gives way, the American version of getting into lane is indicate, accelerate, swerve, signal with middle finger. I prefer the method used in Britain where you use the cars indicators so the driver opposite slows down and allows you to merge into the lane!! At least one memorable occassion where I was running out of road and no one was letting me enter the right hand lane on the freeway.

What's with all the anti-american sentiment?

Post by davcrag » Mon Oct 10, 2005 4:42 pm

Look guys.. The USA is a huge country. Every city is different in regards to how people act and how you can expect to be treated.
The people in my city are very friendly but the drivers stink.
I have been all around the world and the drivers pretty much suck everywhere.
I myself do not eat beef. I am a vegeterian. So there!!!!!!!
Trust me.. drivers stink in Europe as well. Want to talk about unhealthy eating habits? What's this I hear that the dutch love to eat FRIED MARS BARS??!!! WOW!!! Talk about instant clogging of arteries.
Just remember, one's government should not directly be a reflection of a citizens beliefs. One moron does not reflect an entire society!

Only a bit of harmless fun Craig

Of course experiencing any foreign country is going to throw up cultural differences which is what i'm musing on in this thread!! With a UK Vs. USA perspective of course, but driving in California really does stink  by the way we have deep fried Mars Bars in the UK as well but not many people go for them!!

The "oldergames" hat is a nice touch (previously rolled in Fish Heads). You don't even want to know what he did for 5 Bucks and a Hershey bar!!

dude I know this is older thread but I have lived all over this country and to truly experience what it means to be American you have to visit the heartland, where I have settled in. We also call it the Mid-West. I live in NE at the moment but I have also lived in KS and IN.
