CATGUN - PixelHazard

Anything relating to CD-i can be discussed in this forum. From the multiple hardware iterations of the system to the sofware including games, reference, music and Video CDs. Maybe you hold an interest in Philips Media and the many development houses set up to cater for CD-i if so then this is the forum.

CATGUN - PixelHazard

Post by Bas » Fri Jan 06, 2006 11:48 pm

A fascinating title, this. It's an unreleased CD-ROM project from the guys of PixelHazard. You remember PixelHazard from the creation of Lucky Luke: The Videogame on CD-i. These ex-Vision Factory members maintain the same style of graphics and sounds, great looking gameplay and SO much action on screen! I've uploaded some images and MP3's from the game. If you're a fan of the Vision Factory you'll enjoy the sounds without any doubt, really familiar to other SPC soundtracks. I still want to create a video of the gameplay to show you, but until now I don't know how the capture the screen in a video format. Maybe later...

These are images of the cover art, which were posted on cdidev.tripod.com

It's a shame they produced over 40 minutes of SPC inspired music and they didn't use it in the end! However, you can download the MP3 files below (with permission):

Main Theme
Fun Palace
Pig Fortress
Hi-Scores
Boss-Level
Graveyard
Techno Level
Space level
End-Credits Theme

Note these are different from the ones available on the Demo Disc, I will figure out how the source files are related to the latest version available of Catgun.

I know it was supposed to be a CD-ROM game, but the paste of SPC Vision influence in this title is inevitable and to me a FEAST for the eyes!

Awwww, so cute!!

Nice one on the MP3's, i'm gonna have a listen right now. I've had the pleasure to sample this game and it is The Apprentice with the colour turned up 100% in a vertical shooter. Although unfortunately it doesn't respond well under an XP environment

I'm gonna try and get it working properly under my Windows 98 computer, maybe even get some footage if i'm lucky.

The samples here are originals from the music composers which were hired by PixelHazard to perform it. However, the Demo Disc you're refering to has a complete different soundtrack. It leads to my perception they had another (perhaps, playable?) version of this game...

Do I see a pattern emerging here with Anime in CD-i titles lol. But it does look like a very good title. As for how to record video of the play, if you are emulating it, there programs on the net you can get to do that, only one i can think of off the top of my head is Fraps, but that like the emulator has limits unless you pay for it.

What is Fraps like then? It's just a video tool to record on-screen?

Or an emulator which let you emulate old CD-ROM games in a DOS environment?

Sorry that wasnt very clear was it, but its a screen capturing program that lets you record movies of what is displayed on your screen, i was comparing Fraps to the CD-i emulator in that unless you pay for it you (legally) cant record more than somthing like 30 seconds worth of video in a set size, But you could probably record several small sections of video and use something like Windows Movie Maker (comes with xp) to string them all together and edit them into one movie file.

If your interested the website is: www.fraps.com

Maybe with SPC titles!! Especially The Apprentice which was a labour of love for SPC with alot of Anime/Japanese influence. Even the hidden Space Invaders game contains Japanese text. I know i'll end up doing some captures for The Apprentice soon then you can get a glimpse at all the little Anime Chicks, haven't had much luck initiating the "Nudality" Cheat Codes under CD-i Emulator so that sight will have to wait a little longer :P

Lol, Yes that and the characters in the cut-scenes in Earth Command and Mutant Rampage especially have the Anime feel to them too lol.
