The Apprentice Rag Ads

Post by Devin » Fri Dec 02, 2005 12:57 am

Were any magazine adverts ever published for The Apprentice? I find it hard to believe that a highly acclaimed game for the CD-i such as this had little magazine space. Maybe some of the other magazines from the Netherlands, Italy, France or Spain had some ads?

It's very true The Apprentice got very little attention. Same goes for Dimo's Quest, have you ever seen an ad for this one? The only SPC titles from which i have seen an advertisement are Lucky Luke and Uncover: Tatjana.

When CD-i magazine started the Apprentice was already released, perhaps that's why it got so little attention.

Other than that only philips paid for ads to display in cd-i magazine, and those were not a lot. All the available ads are displayed here

Well CDi Magazine was commissioned by Philips in the first place so they paid for the whole lot

This went to the extent of vetting reviews and most published material!! Still it would have been nice to see some Apprentice Adverts.

Really? I don't think the dutch cd-i magazine was funded by Philips for the lot, Philips used to have their own 'magazine' along with their own catalogue, which was later bundled with CD-i Magazine, but the front page always claimed to be independent about cd-i.

Maybe the UK mag was a different story.

I'd question the Dutch editions independence as well seeing as Holland was the home of CD-i and all. The UK edition was bias no matter how much the claimed an independent view.

It's true i felt they were always on the positive side about every game and title, but that may had a reason for their own work because the cd-i already didn't have a big A+ status...

The English CD-i Magazine was a contract job for Haymarket publishing, commissioned by Philips. Philips paid them to get the magazine started and to publish it. The reviewers had to submit their articles to some Philips PR people before they were allowed to publish it. So they had to be very careful with their criticisms.

who is responsible for these advertisements? Do the original artists have anything to do with them?

I don't think the original artists got to do those thinks, but pieces of their work were sometimes used...
